William Walton’s and Sons – 152 Stamford Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 6AD
Founded in 1832 – when Stamford Street looked a lot like this.
Much has changed during the ensuing years, Walton’s it seems has not.
On Monday 24th October 2011 I had the privilege of meeting current owners Marilyn and Dave, spending time chatting and taking photographs.
Thank you.
They tell their own tale – take a look.
So many memories

I used to go in here with my mum as a kid … she was a cake maker so we went in a fair bit. I used to love exploring the shop while mum chatted to the owners. Such a cool place hope it stays around for many years to come it really is part of Ashton’s heritage. Do you know what the old machine upstairs was used for?

Everyone knows this shop, whether they’ve been in it or not! Family, friends, myself and my kids have. My little son loves looking around and sometimes gets a lolly. It doesn’t need to be a ‘posh’ shop to have what you need! Great reading about this little gold mine.

Walked past this shop hundreds of times and been in on several occasions with my wife. Looking at the condition of the walls upstairs it look like it’s never been cleaned in years, love the old printing press and still has all the original lettering and blocks they were set in, a true time capsule in a modern era, long may it last.
