The Beefeater Grill – Halifax

1 George Street, Halifax, West Yorkshire, HX1 1HA

The Beefeater Grill and Griddle is a long established family run grill and coffee house located at George Square Halifax. The place has an old fashioned feel to it and serves typical English cafe food which seems to make it popular amongst its local regulars.

Long may it do so.

Strangers to the town we wandered the streets in search of sustenance.

Bewitched bothered and bewildered – seduced by the tiles and signage, it was love at first sight.

The ability and will to resist the broad brush of regeneration and reinvention is all too rare, the traditional café is constantly under threat – the Beefeater has prevailed.

A stunning tiled exterior, a multi level interior and a menu to match, it’s win, win, win, win all the way.

We went inside and ate.

  3. Such a fab cafe, the food is simple, the chips and gravy a speciality in itself that hasn’t changed in 30 years, my partner and I went here today and it was like going back in time for us both, she mentioned she used to come there as a child with her mum, she would have a frothy coffee……and I can say, its one of the nicest frothy coffees you will find……in a world of change, newness and technology, this little cafe sits as a jewel of a calmer and simpler time…..and all the better for it….ps, the staff and service is lovely too.

  4. I used to eat there regularly back in 1966-69. Is it really almost 60 years ago? Amazed to see it is still alive and popular. Well done!

  5. my sister worked here in the 70s I worked here myself, the braise steak and chips are to die for, my daughter loves the chips and gravey, Danny the owner and his staff are brilliant, and a big hello to kath who is a waitress, she is lovely. If the grill and griddle ever shuts down, a big part of halifax will shut down with it. I love the place, and all who work there. 10/10.
