The Anglican Church of William Temple was opened in 1965 on the corner of Robinswood Road and Simonsway as the church of the Civic Centre.

Hopefully we will all be here again and again.
It’s one of my all time favourite churches and one of George Pace’s most distinctive.
Here he is in Keele, Doncaster, Bradford, Sheffield and Chadderton.
An exterior which betrays only a little, of that which lies inside.
And here is what lies within a range of fittings and fixtures which sympathetically mix and match materials and form.

Such an amazing place to worship, I was a Sunday school attendee at the old William Temple on Cornishway in the 50’s.

Wonderful community in the ’60’s. I was a server, and an active member of the CLB. I played the ‘Last Post’ on remembrance Sunday for a number of years. Whit walks, jumble sales, church socials, christenings, confirmation, weddings and funerals. The old church building on Cornishway was damp and cold, yet the community spirit even more vibrant. Mike Lowe was the charismatic curate in the ‘old church’, who was a truly righteous person.
